U.S.S. Tarawa was an antisubmarine carrier aka CVS-40 with Grumman S2f Trackers. It was originally built as an Essex-class aircraft carrier for the United States Navy shortly after World War II. It was later redesigned to operate as an attack carrier (CVA) and then finally a antisubmarine warfare carrier (CVS). Tarawa is the only ship of its kind to never see combat action.
